Our History

1951:

On March 1, a meeting was called by persons interested in forming and organizing a fire company in North Coventry Township, Chester County. This meeting was hosted at the residence of Vaughn Anderson. The following persons were present: Vaughn Anderson, Melvin Guest Sr., Daniel Guldin, Arthur Miller, Sherman Hess, Charles Bechtel, Samuel S. Root & J. Gordon Harp. The group appointed Vaughn Anderson as temporary chairman. On May 2, Norco Fire Company was granted its charter. Company meetings were held in Kenilworth Playground until the fire company built its fire station.

1952:

The membership of Norco Fire Company purchased 4.778 acres of ground along Route 724 from John Halderman Estate for $4,778.00 on which to build a new fire house in February.

1953:

The Fire Police organized with ten men in February. On April 14, The Ladies Auxiliary was organized.

1954:

We purchased our first pumper, a 1936 Huan from Flourtown Fire Company in April.


1956:

The dedication of Norco Fire Companys new fire house was held on May 20. Our first fire truck was a Model A Ford donated to us by Liberty Fire Company of Spring City, Pennsylvania.

 

 

 

 

 


1958:

On September 26, The Junior Firemen were organized. We purchased our first John Bean high pressure pumper with a tank capacity of 750 gallons in December.


1959:

In January, The Junior Firemen purchased a 1947 International walk-in truck and converted it into our auxiliary truck.

1961:

The fire company added a new fully equipped kitchen to the fire house.

1962:

We received our second John Bean high pressure pumper in August. the tank capacity was 1000 gallons.

1966:

In early spring we remodeled our social room in walnut paneling. In the fall we blacktopped our driveway and part of our parking area.

1967:

We added a third John Bean truck to our fleet. This truck was a high pressure fog brush truck.

1968:

We added three more bays to the engine room and a room dedicated for the Junior Firemen.


1970: 

We housed our fourth John Bean. This truck was a 75 foot ladder, pumper & high pressure fog unit.

 

 

 

 

 


1976:

We housed a GMC Emergency Truck with a generator and other specialized equipment.

1978:

We replaced the 1958 John Bean high pressure pumper in June with a 1978 Ford John Bean high pressure pumper equipped with a 1000 gallon tank and an on board foam unit.

1983:

We replaced the 1962 John Bean high pressure pumper in August with a 1983 Ford John Bean Roughneck pumper with a 1000 gallon tank.

1985:

We built a pavilion in August to better serve the needs of our annual fair. In October we replaced all the bay doors on the fire house.

1986:

In July we replaced the 1967 John Bean high pressure fog brush truck with a 1986 Ford pick-up with a Hale skid mount pump unit. In the fall we added an A-Frame roof to the building.

1990:

We replaced the 1976 GMC Emergency Truck in September with a 1990 American Eagle Rescue Truck with a full set of Holmatro Rescue Tools and other specialized equipment for rescues.
